The chief of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Shafiqur Rahman, cast his vote soon after the polling stations opened in the morning.
He voted at the Monipur High School (Boys’ Branch) polling station, located in Dhaka-15 constituency from where he us running for the election.
He urged the voters to cast ballots fearlessly and with vigilance. He made this call in a social media post on his verified Facebook before he cast the ballot.
“We stand at the dawn of a historic day, a new Bangladesh. After a long wait and sacrifice, today is that day when, trusting in Almighty Allah, and taking a united Bangladesh with us, we have joined the march to create a new chapter for the nation,” he said.
He called upon on the people to vote fearlessly.
“Overcome all fears and hesitations, come to the polling stations, and in a festive environment, cast your vote for the honest, capable, and patriotic candidate of your choice,” he said.
He also called for vigilance against attempt of rigging, irregularities, and vote theft.
“Remember, today’s vote is not just a personal right; rather, it is a trust stained with the blood of martyrs, a key to building a livable, safe, and just Bangladesh for our next generation.”
He urged voters to go to the polling stations with patience and discipline, referring to the right to vote as a “sacred trust.”
The post further stated that if it attains state power, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will not act as rulers, but will fulfill its responsibilities as servants of the nation.
