Dhaka – Bangladesh Nationalist Party Chairman Tarique Rahman said that if his party wins the election, improving the country’s law and order situation will be his highest priority.
He made the remarks after casting his vote at Gulshan Model School and College in the capital on Thursday. A parliamentary election alongside a referendum on constitutional reform package is being held across Bangladesh.
On his party’s plans for law and order, he said, “Work will begin from the very first day of forming the government, with the aim of ensuring that ordinary people feel safe,” he said.
On alleged election irregularities, he said he received information of undesirable events from various places last night.
“Law enforcement agencies have firmly and strictly suppressed those incidents. I firmly that if the people of Bangladesh vote spontaneously, it is possible to overcome any conspiracy,” Rahman told reporters.
He also emphasized women’s empowerment, saying, “Half of the country’s population are women. No development is possible leaving them behind.
Effective steps will be taken to ensure the safety and participation of women, if voted to power, he said.
Rahman expressed hope that through collective effort, it would be possible to usher in a new democratic chapter—one that has long been the aspiration of the people of Bangladesh.
