By Staff Correspondent, Dhaka – The newly formed National Citizen Party (NCP) has issued identical show-cause notices to five of its top leaders, demanding an explanation for their sudden trip to Cox’s Bazar, which sparked controversy.

The leaders — Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Chief Organizers Sarjis Alam (North) and Hasnat Abdullah (South), Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Jara, and Joint Convener Khaled Saifullah — made the surprise visit to the tourist hub on Tuesday, coinciding with the government’s celebrations of the July Uprising anniversary.

These leaders played vital roles in last year’s student-led uprising, which ultimately led to the ousting of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5, 2024. The students later formed the NCP in February this year.

On Wednesday, the party posted the notice on its verified Facebook page, demanding an explanation for the trip.

The notice questioned why they traveled to Cox’s Bazar without informing the party’s political council, especially on such a significant day.

“No prior information or justification was provided to the party’s political council regarding the trip,” the notice said.

The leaders have been instructed to submit written explanations—detailing their reasons and the circumstances behind the decision—to Party Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhter Hossain in person.

Notably, the NCP leaders’ visit to Cox’s Bazar and their stay at the Royal Tulip Hotel on the July Uprising anniversary stirred controversy. Several local media outlets reported that they had met secretly with a former US Ambassador to Bangladesh, a claim the NCP leaders dismissed as “baseless rumors”.
