Dhaka – Retired Air Vice Marshal AK Khandkar, Bir Uttam, Deputy Chief of Staff of Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971, passed away on Saturday at the age of 95.
Khandkar, who had also served as the country’s Chief of Air Staff, breathed his last at 10:30 a.m., according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) department.
He had been suffering from age-related complications.
Born on January 1, 1930, Abdul Karim Khandkar, widely known as AK Khandkar, is a distinguished figure in the nation’s history.
He played a pivotal role in the Liberation War as Deputy Chief of Staff and later served as Bangladesh’s Minister of Planning.
His illustrious career also included diplomatic assignments as Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to India and Australia. In the 2009 general election, Khandkar was elected as a lawmaker to the Jatiya Sangsad from the Pabna-2 constituency.
