By Staff Correspondent, Dhaka – Bangladesh’s election authorities are considering scheduling the next parliamentary election for the first half of February next year.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin said on Wednesday that preparations are underway for the 13th National Parliamentary Elections, likely to be held in early February.

His statement came a day after Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus proposed holding the polls before Ramadan (the Muslim month of fasting) in February and indicated he would formally request the Election Commission to finalize a February date.

The CEC stated that once the Chief Adviser’s official request is received, the commission will meet to finalize the election schedule, which will be announced two months before the voting day.

“We expect the letter soon,” Uddin told reporters at his office in Dhaka’s Agargaon administrative hub.

Despite logistical and organizational challenges, the commission is proceeding with preparations to ensure a smooth, transparent, and inclusive election.

“We’ve been preparing for months and aim to complete all necessary arrangements by September,” he said, emphasizing the commission’s commitment to a level playing field for all participants.

“Our goal is a high voter turnout in a peaceful, festive environment. We are also working to stabilize law and order ahead of the polls,” he added.
