Dhaka – Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman left Dhaka for Moscow on Sunday for a three-day official visit to Russia.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bangladeshi minister is scheduled to hold a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, to discuss issues of bilateral and international concern.
Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir is accompanying the foreign minister.
The Russian Foreign Ministry earlier announced the visit, saying that Rahman would visit Russia from June 7 to 9 at the invitation of his Russian counterpart.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the two foreign ministers would hold talks in Moscow on June 8 to discuss current bilateral and international issues.
The visit provides an opportunity for the two countries to review the state of bilateral relations and explore avenues for further cooperation across various sectors.
This is Rahman’s first visit to Russia as foreign minister after Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) formed the government in Bangladesh in February this year.
Bangladesh and Russia maintain longstanding relations and cooperate in areas including trade, energy, education, and multilateral affairs.
Rahman is scheduled to return to Dhaka on June 9.
