Dhaka, Kuala Lumpur sign five deals to strengthen ties

Staff Correspondent, Dhaka – Bangladesh and Malaysia inked five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance cooperation in key sectors, including defence, as interim Bangladeshi leader Muhammad Yunus commenced his three-day official visit to Malaysia.

Additionally, the two nations exchanged three diplomatic notes, one of which focuses on higher education collaboration.

The signing ceremony, held in Putrajaya, was attended by Yunus and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), the agreements and exchanges were formalized by senior officials from both countries.

The Exchange of Notes on Higher Education was formalized by Malaysian Foreign Minister Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan and Bangladesh’s Adviser for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Asif Nazrul.

The Notes on training for diplomats was by Hasan of Malaysia and Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain.

The MoU on Defence Cooperation was signed by Malaysian Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled bin Nordin and Bangladesh’s Touhid Hossain.

The MoU on LNG, Petroleum, and Infrastructure Collaboration was signed by Malaysian Acting Economic Minister Amir Hamzah bin Azizan and Bangladesh’s Energy Adviser M Fouzul Kabir Khan.

ISIS Malaysia Chairman Faiz Abdullah and Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Shameem Ahsan signed the MoU on Strategic Cooperation.

MIMOS CEO Mohamad Fauzi Yahaya and BMCCI President Shabbir Ahmed Khan signed the MoU on business collaboration while National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM) and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) signed the deal on trade and industry.

The exchange of notes on halal ecosystem cooperation was formalized by Malaysian Deputy Minister Zulkifli bin Hasan and BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud bin Harun.
