By Staff Correspondent, Dhaka – More than 126 million people in Bangladesh are now eligible to vote, according to the draft voter list released ahead of the next parliamentary election, expected in February 2026.

The Election Commission (EC), which also maintains national identity card data, published the figures on Sunday.

At a press briefing, EC Senior Secretary Akhter Ahmed announced that the total number of registered voters stands at 126,170,900, including 64,006,916 men and 62,162,760 women.

Ahmed noted that as of March 2, 2025, the voter count was 123,732,274. A recent enrollment drive added 4,571,216 new voters, while 2,132,590 were removed from the list due to death or ineligibility.

The supplementary draft has been published across all EC offices, and citizens have been urged to report any corrections.

“The final voter list will be published on August 31,” Ahmed said. “Additionally, we will release another list including those who turn 18 by October 31, as per the new law, ensuring new voters don’t have to wait for a year.”
