Dhaka – The interim administration has issued a notification on Wednesday appointing new chiefs of police in all 64 district ahead of the national election planned for voting in February next year.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued the notifications of the appointment of Superintendents of Police (SPs) to be taken immediate effect.

The government for the first time made the appointments of the SPs through lottery in an effort to keep the police administration unbiased during the national election.

The voting date, however, for the 13th parliamentary election is not yet announced.

The lottery was held at the Chief Advisor’s official residence, Jamuna, on Monday.

A list of police men was prepared comprising officers from the 25th and 27th BCS (Police) cadres and the SPs currently serving in the 64 districts.

The list was made from those who are not loyal to the previous Awami League regime and who possess integrity, a good reputation, efficiency, competence, and impartiality in their professional careers, according to the government.

Subsequently, the SPs for the 64 districts were finalized by drawing lots from among them.
