Dhaka – Bangladesh has condemned the drone attack carried out by Houthis on an electricity facility in the Muslims holy city of Medinah in Saudi Arabia.
In a statement on Sunday, Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry also expressed full solidarity with the Saudi kingdom in defending its security and sovereignty.
Bangladesh described the Houthi attack targeting civilian infrastructure service the Prophet Muhammad’s Mosque as deliberate. “It is an unacceptable assault on the sanctity of Islam’s holiest sites,” the statement said.
The government reaffirmed Bangladesh’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia in defending its security and sovereignty, it said adding that Bangladesh firmly rejected any act of aggression that harms regional peace and stability.
Earlier, Aljazeera reported that the Saudi-led alliance fighting Yemen’s Houthis accused the Iran-backed group of attacking an electricity facility in Medina earlier this week. The claim was denied by the Houthis.
The Saudi-led coalition said that a power distribution station in Medina, which supplies electricity to the Masjid an-Nabawi (the Prophet’s Mosque), was attacked on Tuesday.
It caused damages and one transformer of the power station went out of service but without affecting the electricity network.
An investigation and examination of drone wreckage confirmed Houthi involvement in planning and carrying out the attack, the alliance said.
