Dhaka – Bangladesh Nationalist Party Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that the next parliamentary election would not be as easy as it is being perceived.
“If we still do not take it seriously, the existence and sovereignty of this country will face a threat in the future. Only democracy can save this, and you, every person of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, can strengthen the foundation of that democracy,” he told a discussion organized by his party in Dhaka.
Tarique Rahman virtually joined the programme, joined by several thousand leaders and activists of the party’s divisional level units, as chief guest. The programme titled “Plan for National Building” was organized on the occasion of the month of victory.
Rahman urged the party leaders and activists to go door-to-door to the people as the election is nearing.
He said then the people will surely give BNP the opportunity to govern the state.
If BNP comes to power, it will not be a partisan government, it will work for both those who voted for the party and those who did not. “We cannot work for specific individuals only,” he said.
He said there is not much time left before the election, and party leaders and activists must stand by those whom the party has entrusted with BNP’s election symbol sheaf of paddy.
“Candidates will come, candidates may change, but the party and its ideology will remain,” he added.
Rahman said that other political parties are trying to mislead people by spreading lies, but BNP leaders and activists do not need to lie. They just need to present the realistic plans that have been made to the people. This is difficult, but if everyone works together, it will be possible.
The event was presided over by BNP’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. It was conducted by another Joint Secretary General, Habib Un Nabi Khan (Sohel). Among those present were Krishak Dal’s General Secretary Shahidul Islam Khan Babu, BNP Acting Chairman’s Advisor Mahdi Amin, Dhaka Metropolitan North Convenor Aminul Haque, and others.
