Dhaka – The Election Commission has found more than 117 million people eligible for casting vote in the upcoming parliamentary election planned for voting in February next year.
According to the final voters’ roll published by the commission on Tuesday, the country has now some 127,695,186 voters.
Of them, 6,48,14,907 are male voters, while 6,28,79,042 are female voters. There are some 1,234 voters from the third gender (Hijra), the commission said.
Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed released the final voter list at a briefing at his office at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka.
Ahmed said the EC has updated the voter list by including those who reached the age of 18 as on October 31.
He said the growth rate of male voters is 2.29 percent, while women voters are 4.16 percent. He mentioned that what has been published is the growth rate from the voter list that was finalised on March 2.
Responding to a question, he said the number of voters has increased due to enlisting voters by going door to door and motivating and campaigning for voter registration at different times.
Earlier, the EC published the draft voter list on November 2. The total number of voters in the draft list was 12,76,12,384. Of them, 64,47,60,382 were male voters, 6,28,50,772 were female voters and 1,230 are third gender (hijra) voters.
Earlier, in the supplementary voter list published on August 31, the total number of voters in the country was 12,63,09,504.
The EC Secretary also said as of March 2 this year, the total number of voters in the country was 12,37, 32,274. Later, the supplementary draft voter list was published on August 10, including the voters registered until June 30.
