Zunayed’s body recovered from Mirpur sewerage

Dhaka–The body of four-year-old Zunayed Hossain Sabbirwas has been recovered on Friday morning after the fire service members and city corporation workers jointly gave an all-out effort for more than 21 hours in Dhaka’s Mirpur neighbourhood, officials said on Thursday.

The minor boy fell into a sewer near Mirpur Commerce College in Mirpur-2 about 8:40 pm on Wednesday.

A team of fire service members have resumed drive this morning after seven hours’ break to rescue four-year-old Zunayed Hossain Sabbir in the city’s Mirpur area, officials said on Thursday.

Abdullah Arefin, senior station officer of Mirpur Fire Service and Civil Defense, said city corporation workers retrieved the body approximately 150/200 metres away from the point where Zunayed fell.

Rabiul Islam, a cleaning worker of Dhaka North City Corporation, said he found the body of Zunayed while he was cleaning garbage near a water pump around 10:45 am.

Anwar Hossain, deputy assistant director of Fire Service Headquarters, said the rescue team had suspended the search operation nearly 10:30am as they did not find whereabouts of the minor boy.

Zunayed Hossain Sabbir, 4, son of Amir Hossain, hailing from Noakhali, fell into the two kilometer long and 4-5 feet wide sewerage line near Mirpur Commerce College in Mirpur-3 in the afternoon on Wednesday.

The officer said quoting family members that Sabbir went missing about 3pm while he was playing in Rupali Housing area in Mirpur section-3.

.Three fire-fighting teams and divers rushed in to conduct a rescue operation following information.

The rescue operation was paused at 1am as the recue team could not find the boy into the sewer.
