US, Bangladesh agree to work in four areas, says Inu

Dhaka – Dhaka and Washington have agreed to work together in four areas to contain militancy and cyber crimes, a senior Bangladeshi minister said on Thursday.

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu came up with the information after a meeting with US ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat at his office.

The two countries also agreed to work together to protect democracy and enhance sustainable development.

Information minister said that the media can play a quintessential role in tackling militancy and terrorism while the world is facing the challenge of terrorism as global menace.

“That is why it is important to build on the commonalities. We have discussed the issues of common interest with the United States,” he told reporters after the meeting.

Terming the US a close friend of Bangladesh, politically and economically, the US envoy said “We will work in all the four areas identified”.
