Dhaka – Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced Tamim Iqbal as the new ODI captain of Bangladesh Cricket Team replacing Mashrafe Mortaza.
The announcement came Sunday, three days after Mashrafe made his decision to quit the position at a press conference in Sylhet before the third ODI against Zimbabwe.
Nazmul Hassan, president of the BCB, said Tamim has been selected as the new ODI captain.
“He’ll be leading Bangladesh in the coming days,” Hassan told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium after a meeting of the board.
Tamim, the left-handed opener, led the Tigers earlier. But this is his first appointment as the full-time captain.
Mashrafe led the Tigers since 2014, taking over from Mushfiqur Rahim.
