Suspected JMB man captured in Gazipur

Gazipur – A key member of a faction of banned Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh has been arrested in central Bangladeshi district of Gazipur, officials said on Thursday.

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crimes unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police picked up Salauddin Kamran, 30, from Tongi station road of Gazipur on Wednesday, police spokesman Masudur Rahman said.

Kamran was a close aide of suspected terrorist Abu Hakim, who was gunned down in Kallyanpur on July 26.

The police spokesman said the suspect was trained by detained militant suspect Rakibul Hasan Regan in the capital’s Paikpara area after coming in Dhaka in May.

He also kept close contact with Bangladeshi-born Canadian national Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury, who was one of the masterminds of the July restaurant attack in Gulshan. Chowdhury was killed in a gunfight with police in Narayanganj later.
