Suspected drug peddler killed in Brahmanbaria ‘shootouts’

Brahmanbaria- A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight between the law enforcement and the gang in Akhaura sub-district of Brahmanbaria, police said on Tuesday.

The suspect was identified as Rahiz Mia, 48, of Pathariatek village under Moniyond union of Akhaura police station.

Officer Mohiuddin Ahmed said the lawmen conducted the drive in the area at about 1:30am following a tip-off that a gang of drug peddlers was staying in Konabari area to sell drugs.

Rahiz was shot dead as the police retaliated with bullets after the gang fired their guns on them, the officer said.

Five police personnel including a sub-inspector (SI) were injured in exchange of gunfire, Ahmed said.

A handgun, four cartridges, around 100 bottles of liquor, 300 Yaba pills, and 15kgs of cannabis were seized from the scene.
