Suspected criminal killed in Munshiganj ‘gunfight’

Munshiganj- A suspected criminal has been shot dead in a reported ‘gunfight’ with the law enforcements in central Bangladeshi district of Munshiganj, officials said on Monday.

The gun battle occurred at Boikhor area of the district town in the early hours of the day, leaving Shahjalal Miji, dead, district police chief Jayedul Alam said.

A group of suspected criminals fired guns on the policemen as the lawmen raided the area on information that the gang gathered for committing crimes. The lawmen retaliated with bullets triggering a gunfight, he said.

Miji was killed at one stage, the police chief said, adding that three policemen were also wounded during the fight.

The suspect, wanted in 22 cases lodged with different police stations of the district, was involved in robbery, killings and various offences in the area, he added.

Two pistols and two sharp weapons were seized from the scene after the gun battle.
