Suspected bandit killed in Kustia ‘shootouts’

Khulna – A suspected bandit was gunned down in ‘gunfight’ with lawmen in western Bangladeshi district of Kustia, said officials on Sunday.

The gun battle occurred at on the Kushtia-Meherpur highway in Moshan Bazar area of Mirpur sub-district, leaving the suspect Mukul Munshi, 40, killed on the scene. Police said he is accused in a number of cases including robbery.

The crime-busting Rapid Action Battalion of the police said the man was killed during a gunfight erupted as the lawmen tried to capture the gang in Kustia.

Major Mossaddek Ibne Mujib, local commanding officer of the battalion, said sensing the presence of the lawmen, the bandits opened fire prompting them to retaliate.

The security forces seized a handgun, a magazine, two bullets, two machetes and rope from the spot.
