More than 9,000 people have been died after Bangladesh traced the novel coronavirus last year with both number of deaths and fresh infections show rising trends.
The government reported 52 more deaths in the last 24 hours ended on Wednesday morning, rising the death toll to 9,046, according to a health ministry press release.
The number of single day death is highest since August 26 last year, according to the government count.
Some 5,358 fresh cases were detected among more than 26,931 samples tested at different hospitals during the time making the total number of Covid-19 patients to 611,295.
The number of single-day infections is the highest ever since Bangladesh detected the virus in March last year. The previous highest was 5,181 on Monday.
According to the government counts, the current positivity rate in 19.9 per cent while the total positivity rate in 13.09
Some 542,399 people have recovered at the rate of 88.73 per cent.
In the wake of a further surge in the coronavirus cases, the government has imposed an 18-point health guidelines to help slow the spread of the virus. It is reported that people generally flout the health guidelines causing a fresh surge in the virus.
