The shopping malls in Dhaka and elsewhere will reopen on Sunday as the government decided to keep them out of the purview of the nationwide lockdown imposed to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus infections.
The malls must maintain proper health guidelines during their seven-hour operations from 10 am every day, according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Friday.
Given the rise in the number of Covid-19 cases and deaths, the government on April 5 imposed the nationwide lockdown, shutting shops, transportations and offices.
Initially, the lockdown rules were defied by many, but the government imposed yet another strict lockdown from April 14 for a week, which was extended until April 28.
Bangladesh’s shop owners’ associations have been asking the government to allow their operations maintaining health guidelines ahead of the Muslims’ holy festivals of Eid-al-Fitr early next month.
