Road crashes kill seven in Bangladesh

Dhaka – At least seven people have been killed in road accidents in different parts of Bangladesh during the eid-holiday, police said on Wednesday.

An elderly coupled died in the capital Dhaka as a private car ran them over in Sheowrapara area in the morning, officer Masud Ahmed told local media.

The private car hit the couple – identified as Ataur Rahman,70, and his wife Rawshan Ara, 60, – when they were waiting at a Sheowrapara bus stop leaving them kill on the spot. Police seized the car.

Two others were killed in Chittagong after a goods-laden truck rammed a minibus in Sitakundu of south-eastern district of Chittagong, police officer Saleh Ahmed Pathan said about the early morning accident.

Three people, including a woman, died in northern Thakurgaon district as a bus hit a pickup van at Boro Khonchabari on Thakurgaon-Dinajpur highway.

Officer Moshiur Rahman said two of them died on the scene while the other succumbed to his injury at a local hospital.
