At least 15 people were killed and ten others injured after a truck and a pic-up van collided head on near the north-eastern Bangladeshi city of Sylhet, police and hospital sources said on Wednesday.
The accident occurred in the early morning at Nazir Bazar in South Surma upazila when the van was carrying workers to a construction site in Sylhet leaving 11 people killed on the scene.
The van collided with a sand-laden truck, said a police officer.
Rescuers from the Fire Service and Civil Defence department along with local residents retrieved the bodies and rescued the wounded passengers. Four others died at Osmani Medical College Hospital, said Mohammad Moniruzzaman of the emergency service.
Death from road crashes are frequent in Bangladesh due to lax implementation of law, poor road conditions and lack of awareness by the road users.
