Riot in India has no impact in Bangladesh, says minister

Dhaka – In the wake of deadly riots in the Indian capital Delhi, a Bangladeshi senior minister has said there is no room for communalism in his country.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said on Saturday that the happenings in India will have no impact on Bangladesh.

More than 30 people have been killed in violence this week as pro and anti Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) activists clashed in the Indian capital Delhi. The Muslims were mainly targeted by the right-wing Hindus and mosques were also burned down during the five-day riot in different parts of Delhi.

The Bangladeshi home minister said the government has alerted the law enforcement agencies after the Delhi violence.

“The ongoing situation in India will have no impact on non-communal Bangladesh,” he while inaugurating a police station in south-western district of Chuadanga.

On Friday, thousands of Muslims demonstrated in central Dhaka after the weekly prayers to protest the attacks on Muslims in India. They also urged the government not to invite Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the birth centenary celebration of Bangladesh’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in March this year.
