Retired Bangladesh Army officer murdered by policemen: RAB

A retired army officer was a victim of a pre-planned murder by policemen in July this year, the spokesman for the elite Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) said on Sunday.

The main accused in the murder case ensured the major’s death when he found him alive after firing several gun shots, he said.

According to the charge sheet submitted by RAB after investigating the killing, said retired major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was murdered by the accused policemen after he came to know about their involvement in drug smuggling as well as other criminal activities.

In the charge sheet submitted to a local court in southeastern tourist city of Cox’s Bazar on Sunday 15 people, including Teknaf Police Station chief sacked Pradip Kumar Das.

Khan’s sister lodged a murder case against the policemen.

A total of four cases were lodged  in connection with Khan’s murder, of which three by policemen involved and were found to be based on false charges, according to the RAB spokesman.

Of the 15 accused, 11 are policemen, three are local villagers and one policeman is on the run.
