Dhaka – A police woman and a rickshaw-peddler have been injured after an explosion occurred at a parked police van in Dhaka’s Malibagh area on Sunday night, police said.
Assistant sub-inspector of police Rashed Akhter Babli and Lal Miah, the rickshaw-puller was rushed to Dhaka Medical College hospital after the blast at around 9.30 pm.
Police could not immediately determine the reason behind the explosion at the parked police car.
It was not clear whether someone hurled the bomb or it was planted at the car, rear portion of which was burned as fire broke out when the explosion occurred. They, however, did not dismiss the possibility that it might be an act of sabotage.
An investigation into the incident has launched immediately, officer Shibly Noman said adding that everything will be cleared once the investigation report is available.
The members of the Criminal Investigation Department have visited the scene and collected forensic evidence to examine the nature of the explosion.
Security has been beefed up in the capital after the incident.
None has claimed the responsibility of the explosion.
Earlier on April 29, three policemen were injured after a crude bomb went off at a police car in Dhaka’s central Gulistan area. A radical Islamist group, Istamic State, had reportedly claimed the responsibility. The claim could not be verified independently.
