
Dhaka- Police have identified yet another mastermind of the last month’s terrorist attack on a cafe in Bangladeshi capital Dhaka that left 20 civilians, mostly foreign nationals, killed.
Monirul Islam, chief of Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crimes Unit made the disclosure Friday while talking to reporters at Dhaka Metropolitan Police headquarters.
He said the newly identified man is known as Marjan who uploaded picture of the cafe raid in his Facebook page using an application. The clue was found militant’s mobile phone, he said.
Earlier, police has indentified Bangladeshi-origin Canadian citizen Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury and Major (sacked) Syed Md Ziaul Haque as masterminds in the recent terror attacks in Dhaka and Kishoreganj.
Police announced Tk 20 lakh bounty on each of them for information leading to their arrest.
Nine Italians, Seven Japanese, one Indian, two Bangladeshi and one US national were killed by Islamist militants who took them hostage during an overnight siege that started on July, 1 at Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan diplomatic area.
Troops stormed the restaurant to end the siege, and killed six terrorists. Two police officers were also killed during a fight.
Thirteen hostages, mostly Bangladeshi nationals, were rescued alive during the army-led operation.
Islamic State militants claimed the responsibility of the attacks, but Bangladesh said the terrorists are home-grown.
