As poor and daily wage-earners are hard bit by the pandemic-triggered lockdown, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has allocated a fund to immediately assist the people affected by the shutdown.
Hasina on Wednesday allocated 10.5 crore taka to assist poor, distressed, insolvents and floating population, the Prime Minister’s Office said.
Her press secretary Ihsanul Karim said the allocation from the prime minister’s relief fund was given to the deputy commissioners at the districts to distribute them among the needy section of the population.
The relief will be distributed based on locally prepared lists of poor people, he added.
Bangladesh has imposed a lockdown on April 5 shutting offices, transportations and shopping malls to check the spike of the novel coronavirus. The shutdown will continue until April 28.
