Dhaka – The owner of a Bangladeshi packaging plant ravaged by a fire was sued after more than 30 people were killed in the factory blaze, police said on Monday.
Abdul Kader, a father of a worker who died in the fire, lodged the case accusing Syed Mokbul Hussain, chairman of Tampaco Foils Ltd, and seven others of culpable homicide, officer Feroz Talukder told reporters.
Hussain, also a former lawmaker of Bangladesh parliament, could not be contacted.
The four-storey factory building, located 20 kilometers north of the capital, collapsed hours after the fire broke out early Saturday.
Rescuers pulled four more bodies out of the rubbles brining the death toll to 33, said firefighting official Mohammad Akhteruzzamn.
Army troopers joined the rescue operation at the fire-ravaged building.
