Nur Hossain’s wife arrested

Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested the wife of Nur Hossain, the main accused of sensational seven-murder case of Narayanganj.

Ruma Akhtar, 40, from Rosulbagh of Siddhirganj area of the district, was held around 7am on Monday.

Police sources said ACC filed a case against Nur Hossain and Ruma for acquiring illegal properties.

Siddhirganj OC Shorafatullah said: “They [ACC] had sought our help, so we assisted them in arresting Ruma.”

However, he did not confirm about the case Ruma had been arrested in connection with.

On April 27, 2014, Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver were abducted from Fatullah area in the city. At the same time, senior lawyer of the Narayanganj district judge’s court Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were abducted on their way to Dhaka.

After the gruesome incident, Nur Hossain, fled to India and was arrested there by the Kolkata police on June 14.
