National University officials detained over graft charges

Dhaka – The Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested three top officials of the National University for their alleged involvement in embezzling nearly 10 million taka in Dhaka, said police on Monday.

The anti-graft officials along with the lawmen launched a special drive in city’s Mirpur neighbourhood and arrested them Monday morning, said ACC spokesman Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya.

The identities of the suspects are: proctor and deputy registrar MH Tahid Zaman, its assistant registrar Siddiqur Rahman and assistant director Mofazzal Hossain.

In 2012, a person lodged a case against the trio with a local police station in connection with the graft charge.

The accused assigned Selection Grade to a number of NU officials violating government rules causing a loss of public money of nearly 10 million, according the case statement.
