Dhaka – Investigators have identified more people behind the last month’s deadly attack on a restaurant in Bangladeshi capital that left 20 civilians, mostly foreign nationals, killed.

Seven to eight more persons, who had links with the attack at Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan diplomatic area on July 1, have already been identified by the investigators, Monirul Islam, head of counter-terrorism of Bangladesh police told reporters on Tuesday.

The officer, however, did not disclose the names of the newly identified masterminds of the terrorist attack saying the organisational names, family names and other details of those suspects have already been with the police now.

Earlier, the police identified a former army officer Syed Md. Ziaul Haq, Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury, Nurul Islam Marzan and Hasnat Karim as the masterminds of the assault.

“We are scrutinizing the information,” the officer said.

Meanwhile, police on Sunday informed that Nurul Islam Marzan, an Arabic department student of Chittagong University, was a leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. But they could not trace the accused.

Police, however, is learnt to have picked up Marzan’s father from their ancestral home in north-western Bangladeshi district of Pabna.

Islam said the people having link with the attacks are still in Bangladesh and police were trying to capture them.

He said most of them are the members of Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

Bangladesh-born Canadian citizen Tamim masterminded the Gulshan and Sholakia attacks, while Marjan worked as a coordinator between the attackers and the mastermind during the events of July 1, according to the police.
