Dhaka – Angry mob set two passenger buses to fire after a biker was killed as the buses reportedly racing against each other in Asulia of Savar on Sunday, police said.
The biker was identified as Mehedi Hasan, 22, an electrician by profession.
Police quoting local residents said the accident occurred at around 8 am when one of the passenger buses belonged to Ali Noor Paribahan was trying to overtake the other of the same company near Zirabo on Dhaka-Bypile road.
At that time, one of the buses dashed the biker and then run over him, killing the electrician on the scene, officer Razu Mandal said.
Immediately after the accident, dozens of local residents and passersby blocked the buses and set them to fire as the passengers got down.
Being informed, members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence department rushed to the scene and doused the flame. Vehicular movement remained closed for more than two hours on the busy route in the industrial district of Asulia.
Deaths from road crashes are frequent in Bangladesh thanks to lax implementation of regulations, poor road condition and reckless driving.
