Legendary actor laid to rest

Dhaka – Friends, relatives, co-workers, followers and a host of well-wishers thronged to Banani Graveyard Wednesday to bid the final farewell to Bangladesh’s legendary actor Abdur Razzak.

The superstar, who died of cardiac arrest at the age of 76 on Monday at a city hospital, was laid to eternal rest at the graveyard in the morning.

People from all walks of life paid respect to the super-hero as his confine was taken to Central Shaheed Minar on Tuesday. Two funeral prayers – one at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation premises and the other at the Azad Mosque in Gulshan -were organized on the same day.

Razzak, the founding president of Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association, was born on January 23, 1942 at South Kolkata. He played prime roles in as many as 300 films in Bangla and Urdu.

Razzak migrated to Dhaka from Kolkata in 1964 during the Hindu-Muslim riots and made his place in Dhaka’s film industry.
