Dhaka – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday said the former premier Khaleda Zia must be penalised if she is found guilty by any court over graft charges.
“Khaleda will certainly be punished if she is proven guilty in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case,” Hasina told a gathering of expatriated Bangladeshis in Munich of Germany. German chapter of the ruling Awami League party organized the reception to Hasina at Marriott Hotel in Munich.
Khaleda Zia, chief of Bangladesh Nationalist party, and her political deputies and cabinet colleagues were accused of plundering of money from an orphanage named after her husband Ziaur Rahman.
Hasina castigated that BNP was threatening not to join the next general election has its party chief is convicted of graft.
“What type of politics is it? If the Khaleda is convicted by the court with proper evidence and documents then the party will not take part in the national polls,” she said.
Hasina added that there was no doubt that Khaleda plundered money.
The Prime Minister said her government was relentlessly trying to improve the fate of the people by fighting poverty, corruption and terrorism.
“Terrorists and home-grown Islamist militants will not be spared as our government took stern action against the global menace.
Leaders and activists of Awami League and its associate bodies from across Europe, including Germany, France, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Spain and Finland, participated reception.
