Dhaka – The High Court has stayed a decision by Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) hiking the water price generally by 25 per cent in the city.
Justice M Enayetur Rahim passed the order upon a writ petition filed by a Supreme Court lawyer challenging the government decision. The virtual court suspended the government decision up to August 10.
Petitioner Tanvir Ahmed moved on his behalf while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam argued in favour of the WASA. Ahmed filed the Public Interest Litigation on June 15 seeking a ban on WASA’s decision to raise water price.
The WASA increased the water bill from April 1. The raise was 25 per cent for the residential users while eight percent for the commercial users.
