Hasina to receive two more awards in New York

Dhaka – Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to receive two more awards in New York Wednesday for her contribution in social changes made in the South Asian country, officials said.

She will be honoured this year with ‘Planet 50-50 Champion’ and ‘Agent of Change Awards’ in for her outstanding contributions to women empowerment.

Nazrul Islam, deputy press secretary of the prime minister, told reporters that UN-Women will confer ‘Planet 50-50 Champion’ while Global Partnership Forum will confer the ‘Agent of Change Awards’ on the Bangladesh Prime Minister at a High-Level reception at the UN Headquarters.

Hasina has been visiting the United States as she joined the 71st United Nations General Assembly being held in New York.

The prime minister is scheduled to join the Launching Event of the Global Deal Initiative (on enhanced social dialogue for decent work and inclusive growth) to be organized by Swedish Premier Stefan Löfvén on Wednesday.

She will also join the a luncheon reception to be hosted by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the UN headquarters and a luncheon meeting to be hosted by the Business Council of International Understanding (BCIU) at Hotel Waldorf Astoria.

Hasina will participate a reception to be organized by the Bangladesh community in New York at Hotel Grand Hyatt on Sept 21 and address a press briefing at Permanent Mission of Bangladesh in New York on Thursday.

Hasina left Dhaka on Wednesday for Montreal as she was on an 11-day official trip to Canada and the United States. She is likely to return home on September 26.
