Dhaka – Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Munich to attend the global security conference scheduled to begin Friday afternoon, officials said.

German Chancellor Angela Markel will address the audience at the inaugural session begins at 2.30 pm (Germany time). More than 500 leaders from across the globe are attending the conference to debate the current crisis and future challenges in terms of international security.

Bangladesh is likely to discuss the issue of Rohingya crisis as the South Asian country has been hosting more than 300,000 Myanmar citizens, persecuted by the Burmese military for decades.

Munich city has been hosting the conference under the chairmanship of Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger.

During the visit, the Bangladesh Prime Minister will also hold bilateral talks with German Chancellor on the sideline of the conference.

Hasina left Dhaka on Thursday evening by an Etihad Airways flight. Bangladesh Ambassador to Germany Imtiaz Ahmed received her as she arrived in Munich airport in the morning.

A ceremonial motorcade took Hasina to Munich Marriott Hotel at Berliner Strasse, where she will be staying during the three-day visit.

The prime minister will also take part in a panel discussion on ‘Climate Security: Good COP, Bad COPs”.

She is expected to return home on Sunday.
