German nationals detained at Dhaka airport with handguns
Dhaka – Two Bangladesh-origin German were detained at Bangladesh’s main airport as they were allegedly transporting firearms, customs officials said on Tuesday.
Officials at Customs Intelligence department confiscated nine ‘small arms’ from their possessions as they were passing through the green channel at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Assistant Commissioner of the Customs department HM Ahsanul said that the Emirates Airlines passengers – Anisul Islam and Manir Ben Ali – were challenged at the green channel acting on a tip off.
Then the inspectors found a box, top of which was inscribed with ‘small arms’, from one of their baggage. Nine firearms were recovered from their possession, said the official.
