Dhaka – The government has been reviewing the existing ruled and regulations to public a gazette notification over the existing job quotas as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced scrapping of the system in response to student’s demand.
The gazette notification on the quota system will be published in appropriate time, senior secretary of the public administration division, told reporters Thursday, after tens of thousands of students postponed their agitation across the country.
The students from both public and private universities launched the nationwide agitation on Sunday demanding reforms in the job quota system that kept 56 per cent of the public jobs reserved for the freedom fighters and their dependants, women, ethnic minorities and physically challenged people.
The rest 46 per cent jobs were for the rest of the people to compete based on merit, according to the statistics.
In the face of nationwide students’ protest, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday announced in apparent annoyance that there should be no need for quota since the student opposes to have quota in the civil service.
The Prime Minister said the cases of the physically challenged persons and the ethnic minorities will be taken care of in a different way.
