Four members of a family, including two children, were reportedly slaughtered at their home in a village of the south-western district of Satkhira, police said on Thursday.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night at the home of one Shahinur Rahman of Khalsi village in Kalaroa upazila, nearly 175 kilometers south-west of the capital Dhaka, officer Harun Chandra told local media.
On information, he said the lawmen recovered the bodies of Shahinur Rahman, 40, his wife Sabina Khatun, 30, and their two children – nine-year-old Siam Hossain Mahi and six year old Tasnim. Police believe all of them were slaughtered at the dead of night.
The motive of the murders could not be known yet, he said adding that an investigation was launched into the tragic incident.
Quoting local residents, the officer said that the criminals might have entered into the home breaking the door of their attic room, and left after accomplishing their mission.
