Dhaka – Badaruddin Ahmad Kamran, former mayor of the north-eastern city of Sylhet, has been died of Covid-19, a disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
Kamran, a popular leader in Sylhet and also central executive committee member of the ruling Awami League party, breathed his last on Sunday night at Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment more than a week, AL organization secretary Shafiul Alam Nadel.
He was 69.
The coffin of the former mayor was transported to his own city, where he was buried by the side of his mother’s grave after funeral prayers.
Kamran was admitted to the Dhaka CMH on June 7 after his physical condition deteriorated. He was diagnosed Covid-19 positive on June 5 in Sylhet and then shifted to Dhaka for improved care.
His wife Asma Kamran was diagnosed Covid-19 positive on May 27.
