Follow health guidelines as Covid-19 cases rising

Bangladesh has launched drive to ensure people wear face masks as the number of novel coronavirus cases are rising again.

In a daily count, the health officials reported 2,172 new cases with 22 deaths in the last 24 hour ended on Sunday morning.

With the new cases, the total number of Covid-19 infections rose to 570,878 with a total number of deaths to 8,690 since Bangladesh reported the first cases of the virus in March last year.   

As the number of cases was registering steadily rise in the past couple of weeks, the government has been asking people to strictly follow the health guidelines to help slow the spread of the virus.

People in most parts of the country were seen reluctant to wear facemask. The capital Dhaka was not also an exception, prompting the authorities to issue a fresh office order asking the people to wear face mask in public place and ensure social distancing.   

On Sunday, a magistrate launched a drive against people without face mask. More than a dozen people in Dhaka’s Shahbagh area was awarded with small amount of financial penalty over the defiance of health guideline.

The government, meantime, said in a press release that 1,687 recovered from the Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, making the total number of recovery from the disease to 522,405. The current recovery rate is The 91.51 percent.

The mortality rate was counted to 1.52 percent.

Some 21,108 samples were tested across the country in the last 24 hours. And the positivity rate was counted to 10.29 percent.
