Dhaka – A fire that broke out at a warehouse of an electronic manufacturing unit in Gazipur has been brought under control after hours of frantic efforts, firefighters said on Friday.
Firefighters have doused the flame in the afternoon, more than eight hours after it broke out at the fifth-floor of the six-storey building of Minister Hi-tech in the morning.
The fire gutted materials piled at the fifth and sixth floors of the building, firefighters said. Television footage show the sky turned black with smoke after the fire broke out at the factory building in Dhirasram area of Gazipur.
Mamunur Rashid, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence in Gazipur, said fire-fighting units from Dhaka and Gazipur extinguished the flame.
He said the fire might have originated from electric mal-functioning at the building, which was being used as warehouse of the factory. Separate committees were formed to investigate the reason behind the blaze.
No causality, however, was reported from the fire.
May of Gazipur City Corporation who rushed to the scene being informed about the fire said the building might have lack proper fire safety mechanism.
