Dhaka – Part of Dhaka’s Eskaton-Mouchak flyover has been opened to traffic Thursday as most parts of the comprehensive flyover remained still under construction.
Local Government Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Khandkar Mosharraf Hossain formally opened the road bridge at about 11 am saying it would help ease traffic congestion of some part of the city.
Opening of this part of the flyover would not completely make the traffic-hassle free, said the minister. “Once the construction of other flyovers is completed in line with the master plan, the city will get rid of the traffic congestion,” added Hossain.
A one kilometer and two-lane flyover was the part of a mega project of networked flyovers called Moghbazar-Mouchak project that was to connect area at the central part of the capital.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated first phase of the 8.70 kilometer Moghbazar-Mouchak Flyover for traffic on March 30. She opened the flyover’s Satrasta-Maghbazar portion of the bridge at that time.
The purpose of the project is to facilitate north-south traffic movement through increased traffic carrying capacity at Satrasta, FDC, Moghbazar, Mouchak, Santinagar, Malibag, Moghbazar and two railway intersections at Malibagh area.
