Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has announced that the prime ministers of Bangladesh and India are to have a virtual meeting this December is indeed a step in the right direction which we hope will augur a new era of ties between “true” friends.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also accepted an inviation from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina join Bangladesh’s 50th Independence celebration in March 2021 will indeed be befitting moment for the people of the two countries as Freedom Fighter and Indian Army fought together for this hard-earned freedom.
It will also mark 50 years of diplomatic ties between the two South Asian neighbours
The month will also end the 100th birthday celebrations of the country’s founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, although the nation missed a grand celebration of this great leader due to COVID-19, and he had left behind special ties with India for his successors to follow suit.
The mission, interrupted by pro-Pakistani military and political regimes, is now being led by his worthy daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Thus this meeting between the two leaders and Premier Modi’s joining will be a moment to put behind the recent dip in ties and rebuild even a more stronger relations for the interest of the people of the two countries.
We would like to stress that just like a love affair, any relation is a mutual respect and understanding between the two. India, however being a regional power must nurture the relations more and that too carefully.
As we welcome High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami, we would like to hope he will use his “mandate” for a beautiful love affair between Bangladesh and India. Good luck!
