Dhaka – The number of novel coronavirus cases have steadily been rising in Bangladesh after the virus cases were reported low for months, according to official tally.
Some 1,018 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours ended on Wednesday morning, raising the total; number of infections to 553,105 in the South Asian country.
The Wednesday’s tally was the highest in the last two months. The government alerted people to remain cautious as the number was surging, more than a year after the first cases were reported on March 8, 2020.
The death toll rose to 8,496 after seven fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours.
An official handout said some 1,264 patients recovered from the disease at home and in hospital care during this time. The total number of recovery is now 506,613 in Bangladesh.
The health facilities at different parts of the country tested some 17,032 samples and found a positivity rate of 5.98 percent while the recovery rate was 91.59 per cent.
The mortality rate was reported at 1.54 per cent.
