Dhaka – The government will now pay double the amount it used to pay the land owners in case it needs to acquire lands for public purposes, officials said on Monday.
The decision came at the weekly meeting of the cabinet headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The meeting approved the draft proposal to be placed for further scrutiny.
Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said that the owners will get compensation three times more as they are now getting one and a half times more than the property value.
The draft will be sent to a parliamentary committee for further scrutiny. The meeting observed that the committee will be able to co-opt more people if it wants.
The value of immovable property is determined from the purchase and selling data of such properties in the same area in 12 months, the cabinet secretary said.
The meeting also approved a draft on Palli Sanchay Bank (amendment) Ordinance, 2016.
