Bangladeshi police kill suspected militant

Dhaka – A suspected militants was killed Saturday in a gunfight with law enforcements in Dhaka’s Azimpur area, police said.

Five security personnel and three other suspected militants who sustained injuries were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The ‘gunfight’ erupted at around 7.30pm when the members of the counter-terrorism unit of the police raided a den of the suspected militants at Azimpur. The lawmen cordoned off the home in Azimpur asking the local residents to go for safety.

Police officer Shahabuddin Qureshi said the suspected terrorists stabbed two police personnel as they raided the den. The female members of the militants’ gang also threw pepper dust on the lawmen.

At one point they attacked the policemen with kitchen-knife prompting the lawmen to fire several gunshots leaving three females injured.  Later the body of a man was found in the home. But the identity of the man could not be known immediately.

Police said the police carried out a raid at a house No. 209/5 near Azimpur graveyard around.
