Dhaka – Seven more people have been died of novel coronavirus infections raising the death toll from the virus to 206 in Bangladesh, officials said on Friday.
Besides the deaths, the health officials also diagnosed 709 cases of new infections in the last 24 hours ended on Friday morning, making the total number of Covid-19 patients in the South Asian country to 13,143.
Bangladesh reported the first three cases of novel coronavirus on March 8 when it was asserted by the officials that the country has enough preparation to test and treat the patients.
But, the tests are accelerated only a few weeks ago and their result started showing constant increase of new cases with the community infections reported in one of the most densely populated countries in the world.
Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the government’s health services directorate, said a total of 5,941 samples were tested in 35 labs across the country in the last 24 hours.
She said 191 Covid-19 patients recovered during this period. The total recovery number patients recovered now stands at 2,101, she added.
Five of the newly reported deceased were male and three female. One of them was aged above 90 years, two each were above 70 and 60. Two the were between the age of 51 and 60, Sultana added.
